FAQs

Heating & Furnace

How do I know if my furnace needs to be repaired or replaced?
Generally, if your furnace is over 15 years old and repair costs exceed 50% of the value of a new system, replacement is recommended. Look for "red flags" like soaring energy bills, strange rattling noises, or inconsistent heating across different rooms.
How often should I service my heating system?
We recommend a professional tune-up once a year, ideally in the fall before the first cold snap. Regular maintenance can improve efficiency by up to 15% and prevents 90% of common mid-winter breakdowns.

Air Conditioning

What size AC unit does my home actually need?
Sizing isn't just about square footage. We perform a Manual J Load Calculation, which accounts for your home’s insulation, window orientation, and ceiling height. An oversized unit will "short-cycle" and fail to remove humidity, while an undersized unit will run constantly and wear out early.
Why is my AC running but not blowing cold air?
The most common culprits are a clogged air filter, a frozen evaporator coil, or a refrigerant leak. Before calling for service, check your filter and ensure the outdoor condenser unit isn't blocked by debris or tall grass.

Standby Generators

How long does a home standby generator installation take?
The physical installation typically takes 1 to 3 days. This includes pouring a level concrete pad, mounting the unit, and installing the Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS). However, the permit and municipal inspection process can add 2–4 weeks to the total project timeline.
What is the difference between a standby and a portable generator?
A standby generator is a permanent fixture that turns on automatically within seconds of a power failure, even if you aren't home. It runs on your home’s natural gas or propane line. A portable generator requires manual setup, extension cords, and frequent refueling with gasoline.
